Unfair Competition Law, under the umbrella of Intellectual Property Law, protect owners of non-functional mental creations (apart from patent, trademark, copyright,  and trade secret law).

In other words, the way an owner (business) packages the product with a certain color; or the way an owner names his business; or a well known slogan; or a very distinctive packaging label.
